Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan shared his thoughts on the team's recent four-game road trip after Tuesday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. The Red Wings went 1-2-1 on the trip and now sit with a 22-20-6 record on the season.

McLellan felt the trip was overall average for his team. He was pleased with the 5-2 win over Florida to start the trip, calling it a "really good win" where they weathered the Panthers' pressure.

However, he expressed disappointment at the 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay, saying they were "tricked by the volume of shots, but not the intensity around the net."

The 4-1 loss to Dallas wasn't ideal after falling behind 3-0, but McLellan said the team settled in after that. He was happy with the way the Red Wings finished against the Flyers despite the overtime defeat.

“You never head out for 50-50 you always want more. And we came up a little short, so an average trip for our group, but when we get on the plane tonight, I think we're making strides in certain areas.”

He pointed to improvements in their defensive zone play, breaking the puck out of their end and checking through the neutral zone.

“We didn't rely on our power play. Obviously no chances, but we got to find a way to probably score more than one a night, five on five, if we're going to have success." He added.

Joel Farabee and Rasmus Ristolainen scored for the Flyers. Ben Chiarot scored for the Red Wings.

Samuel Ersson made 27 saves, while Alex Lyon stopped 24 shots in the loss.

Todd McLellan previewing the Red Wings' upcoming game against the Montreal Canadiens

The Detroit Red Wings face the Montreal Canadiens at home on Thursday night. The Canadiens currently hold the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and have been playing well lately.

When asked about the upcoming matchup, Todd McLellan said he hasn't reviewed Montreal yet but will start prepping for them tomorrow.

"We'll review this game [against Philadelphia] on the way home tonight, and the group has to go home and breathe a little, get some rest. And then when we come in, we'll look at Montreal," McLellan said.
"They're obviously playing really well. I can't tell you what we did well or didn't do well against them, just haven't been that far into it."

Before turning their attention to Montreal, McLellan wants his team to rest and regroup.
