Evgeni Malkin, a Pittsburgh Penguins center, was kept busy during the pandemic shutdown in Miami, according to his wife, Anna Kasterova. The family had all tested negative for COVID-19 after Kasterova became sick in April.
Evgeni Malkin stayed in shape by running, swimming, and skating in Florida. He also changed his diet, cutting out potatoes, gluten, and eating fewer sweets.
Kasterova said:
"He didn’t eat potatoes at all. This was more of a problem for me. ... Without potatoes it was difficult to cook. If housewives read this, they would understand me. He even began to eat less sweets, cut out gluten. Even the recommended quick carbohydrates before the game — for example, pasta — were made from gluten-free pasta."
Malkin kept his mind active as well, hiring an English tutor to work on his grammar and a Russian literature tutor, studying five days a week.
Kasterova said:
Malkin watched television in English but read books in Russian, including "Quantum Warrior: The Future of the Mind" by John Kehoe.
She mentioned that they would like a second child and that she wanted a girl.
Evgeni Malkin's priority was to win a fourth Stanley Cup, but he also hoped to win Olympic gold one day and that NHL players would be allowed to play in the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Kasterova expects Malkin to return to Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL for the final season of his career.
Evgeni Malkin's relationship with Sidney Crosby
Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have been playing together for the Pittsburgh Penguins for over a decade and have won three Stanley Cups together. While they have different personalities and come from different parts of the world, they have developed a close and powerful friendship.
Despite being two of the biggest stars in the NHL, Crosby and Malkin are both known for their humility and focus on team success. They both lead by example on and off the ice and have mutual respect for each other's skills and work ethic.
Malkin has said that Crosby is like a brother to him, and Crosby has described Malkin as a loyal teammate and friend. They often joke around with each other, and Malkin has even said that Crosby is the only player he will allow to make fun of him.
Their friendship extends beyond hockey, with the two often spending time together off the ice. Malkin even visited Crosby's hometown of Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia, where they went fishing and hung out with his family.
While they may have different personalities and backgrounds, Crosby and Malkin have found common ground in their passion for hockey and their dedication to their team's success.
Their powerful and quiet friendship has helped lead the Penguins to multiple championships and has set an example for teammates and fans alike.
