The seemingly ageless Jaromir Jagr recently scored the first goal of his 37th pro hockey season. The 52-year-old Czech star suited up for his first game of the season with the Rytiti Kladno of the Czech Professional League.
Fans were left impressed and in awe of Jagr’s impressive skills on the ice even into his 50s. Here’s a closer look at what some fans had to say about Jagr’s first goal this season on X/Twitter:
“He's a hockey machine!” one fan tweeted.
“Simply amazing,” another fan commented.
“Call off the retirement!” one fan remarked.
But beyond Jaromir Jagr’s impressive skills, some fans were blown away by the fact that Jagr has played for nearly four decades of pro hockey:
“Guy has been slinging professional goals literally as long as I’ve been alive, never seen a human more built to play hockey nor will I ever see it again,” one fan opined.
“He's been playing longer than I've been alive,” another fan said.
“I’m 25 years old man has literally played longer than my existence,” one fan added.
Jaromir Jagr reportedly plans to retire after this season
The Athletic recently reported that Jaromir Jagr had acknowledged his plans to retire after this season in the Czech league.
According to The Athletic, Jagr commented on a Czech IG post, saying that this would be his final season of professional hockey.
Jagr last played in the NHL during the 2017-18 season in which he suited for 22 games with the Calgary Flames. Before that, he played a full 82-game season with the Florida Panthers, scoring 16 goals and 46 points.
After leaving the NHL, Jagr continued his career overseas in Europe. He’s played in the Czech league for several seasons for Rytiri Kladno, his hometown team, which he also owns.
It’s worth noting that Jagr is currently ineligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame as he still hasn’t retired from professional hockey. But when he does, Jagr will undoubtedly be a surefire first-ballot inductee.
The Hall of Fame has a three-year waiting period for players to be inducted. However, that waiting period has been waived in the past for legends like Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. As such, there is reason to believe the Hall of Fame may be inclined to do the same for Jagr.
