The Buffalo Sabres are interested in Jacob Trouba, the captain of the New York Rangers. The Rangers' talks with Detroit didn't work out due to Trouba's $8 million cap hit. His role on the team has shrunk, so they might trade him. Trouba is tough on defense and a strong leader, and many teams are interested in him.

NHL insider Snark Messier posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying:

"Michael DeRosa, of @TheHockeyNews, has reported the Buffalo Sabres are possibly eyeing Trouba. #NYR."

Following this announcement, several fans reacted to it.

"In return we'll take some Buffalo wings," one fan said.
"That would keep Trouba in NY area at least which helps the family situation," one fan commented.
"'Possibly' is the key word lol which translates to, get ready to see him lace his skates on opening day for the Rangers," one X user said.

Take a look at some more reactions from NHL fans on X.

"Assuming he has a no trade clause so I’d be shocked if it ever happens," one fan tweeted.
"Owen Power-Trouba Might cook up one of the worst d pairings in history," a fan commented.
"Trouba’s wife has a NYC physician residency. Unless it’s the Islanders, Devils, Flyers or Capitals I don’t see him moving," a fan tweeted.

Buffalo needs a top-six winger and is considering adding Trouba's experience to its young defense. However, the Sabres' defensive lineup is already solid. This could push out current players like Henri Jokiharju or Connor Clifton.

Jacob Trouba has a 15-team no-trade clause. This gives him control over potential deals. It is uncertain if Buffalo will secure him despite its interest.

Jacob Trouba likely staying with New York Rangers despite trade attempts

Jacob Trouba's future with the Rangers is uncertain. The Rangers cleared cap space by trading Barclay Goodrow. Attempts to trade Trouba to Detroit failed. This became public knowledge. As of July 10, Trouba is still with the Rangers.

The delay in trading Trouba suggests he will stay with the Rangers next season. Most notable free agents are already signed. Replacing Trouba now would be challenging. Other teams are reluctant to take on Trouba's $8 million cap hit. While Trouba is likely to remain a Ranger, changes could still happen before October.
