NHL fans erupted on social media after Netflix dropped the first teaser for "Happy Gilmore 2," showing Adam Sandler returning in his iconic role, this time sporting a Boston Bruins jersey.

The brief footage, which also features NFL star Travis Kelce, immediately sparked reactions across social platforms.

Adam Sandler's connection with hockey and the Bruins

Adam Sandler said that he grew up watching Bruins legends Bobby Orr and Terry O'Reilly play. Though Sandler was a New York Rangers fan himself, many of his childhood friends were passionate about hockey and the Bruins.

One friend in particular, Kyle McDonough, who played professional hockey in Norway, made a big impression on Sandler.

“Kyle who played pro over in Norway, he was golfing with me and my dad. He was smacking the golf ball further than everybody and my father would say 'Man this kid is incredible, he's got those hockey wrists'. Sandler said during NHL Celebrity Wrap in 2019.

"And so I thought of the movie based off that - my father and Kyle talking about it. So, I'll always have a nice connection with hockey."

This interaction sparked the idea for Sandler's popular hockey movie “Happy Gilmore.”
