Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin will have surgery on Thursday to repair a hip injury. The surgery will address a femoral acetabular impingement (FAI) and a labrum issue on his left side. Seguin is expected to miss four to six months of action.
The Stars’s official account shared the news from General Manager Jim Nill.
"Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that forward Tyler Seguin will undergo surgery on Thursday, Dec. 5 to repair a left side FAI (femoral acetabular impingement) and the left side hip labrum. Seguin is expected to miss four to six months. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Bryan T. Kelly at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, N.Y."
Responding to the announcement, fans reacted to the post on X (formerly Twitter) and expressed concern.
“Jesus, hopefully it’s not career-ending.” One fan wrote.
“Prayers. 🥺,” Another fan said, showing support for Seguin.
"Heal up soon, monster start of the season Tyler! Hope it has a Monster ending too!" one fan wrote.
However, some fans think it was a way to avoid the salary cap constraints.
"Listen as long as Seguin is healthy and good to go again: throw him on LTIR, $9 million in cap👀" one fan said.
"Congrats to Dallas Stars fans on $9 mil in cap space and a healthy Seguin back for the playoffs" another fan said.
"I had this surgery in February. The rehab sucks and it’s a long road to 100%. Saying that, Seguin is a professional athlete with the best care available to him and nothing but time to focus on his recovery. Best of luck to him getting back to 100%" a fan shared.
Fans are hoping Seguin will make a full recovery and return soon.
Tyler Seguin’s performance, previous injury, and LTIR scenario
Tyler Seguin, 32, was placed on injured reserve after playing 15:08 in a 3-1 win over Winnipeg Jets. He missed the next game against the Utah Hockey Club. Seguin has 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists) in 19 games this season.
Last year, he missed 11 games due to a lower-body injury. In 2020-21, he played just three games after hip and knee surgeries.
Seguin has 808 points in 988 regular-season games and 71 points in 133 Stanley Cup Playoff games. The Stars may place him on long-term injured reserve to manage his $9.85 million cap hit.
The Stars, with a record of 16-8-0, are third in the Central Division. They are six points behind Minnesota for the first spot and four behind Winnipeg for the second spot.
