The IIHF 2025 World Junior Championship will begin in Ottawa, Canada, on Thursday and go on till Jan. 5. The tournament features top junior hockey players from 10 countries competing for the gold medal.
The teams are divided into two groups. Group A includes the defending champions, the United States, along with Canada, Finland, Germany and Latvia. Group B has Sweden, Czechia, Switzerland, Slovakia and Kazakhstan, which is making a rare appearance.
The United States won the 2024 WJC by defeating Sweden 6-2 in the final. The nation aims to win back-to-back titles for the first time since 2017. Canada, hosting the tournament, looks to recover from last year’s quarterfinal upset by Czechia. Meanwhile, Sweden hopes to win its first gold in over a decade.
