A documentary following the Montreal Canadiens through the 2023-24 NHL season will be released on Wednesday. The eight-episode, one-hour series will stream exclusively on Crave in Canada. The documentary offers a rare, in-depth look at an NHL team during a full season, as Montreal is in the midst of a rebuild.

The Canadiens missed out on the playoffs in the 2023-24 NHL season, but the goal for the team was for the young players to take another step forward in the rebuild.

The series is available in English and French, with the English version featuring narration by Canadian media personality George Stroumboulopoulos, according to TSN.

According to TSN, which is owned by Bell, who also owns Crave, the documentary, begins at the season-opening golf tournament, to training camp, to the excitement of the home opener and features never-before-seen interviews with star players.

Montreal finished the 2023-24 NHL season going 30-36-16, which was the fifth-worst record in the NHL.

Montreal Canadiens add Patrik Laine in a trade

With Montreal looking to end their rebuild and be a playoff team, the Montreal Canadiens went out and traded for Patrik Laine from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Canadiens are not expected to make the playoffs this season, but GM Kent Hughes made a big move to trade for the former second-overall pick.

"Whether we make this trade or not, I think our players come in believing they have a chance to do that. I think that more than anything else, what we've seen from our players as I touched on is even in our last two games of the year, Detroit's fighting for their playoff lives and our guys go out and continue to give it their all because they're proud and because they believe that every game is building towards the future," Hughes said (per the Hockey News).
"He has two years on his contract. We had a goal of continuing to improve our offense and we did that to some degree in the draft, but that wasn't necessarily immediate help. And Patrik gives us that potential."

Laine has struggled to perform as of late, but Hughes believes a change of scenery will be good for him.

The Montreal Canadiens will open its 2024-25 NHL season at home on Oct. 9 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
