Jordan Binnington is in his seventh season in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues. The goaltender has had quite the journey of a career. He joined the Blues midway through the 2018-19 campaign and helped them to a Stanley Cup championship as a rookie.
He's had some ups and downs in the years since, along with several emotional outbursts at opponents. Binnington has had that fire in him since day one, and that was further proven in a recent interview involving the former special assistant to the Blues general manager.
Former New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur appeared on "The Cam and Strick Podcast" and shared a funny story about a conversation he had with Binnington.
"I had to send him down once," Brodeur said on Friday. "Because Doug was not there, and he told me 'No.' And I'm like, 'What do you mean? We're sending you down.' 'No.' And I was like, I kind of like, I started laughing. I go 'Alright Doug, will call you then because he told me to tell you you're going down.' And he was like, he really said 'I'm not going anywhere.'
"And you know, he's kind of like, he's a kid that's really confident in himself. Obviously, he's a great athlete and a great guy, I played golf with him this summer we had a blast. But it's funny how it works he got a break and he was ready for his break."
Brodeur also shared another conversation he had with Binnington about his AHL team.
"So the thing is he was playing for Providence and the team was in Rochester and so I told him you have to go meet the team and he didn't want to go meet the team (and) he wanted to go back to Providence. That's why he said 'No, I'm not going there."
It's clear that Jordan Binnington has had the confidence and swagger that's gotten him to where he wanted to be.
Jordan Binnington will represent Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament
Jordan Binnington will battle with Adin Hill and Samuel Montembeault to earn the role of starting goalie for Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February.
Binnington has an 11-15-3 record in 2024-25, with a 2.87 goals-against average, a .896 save percentage and three shutouts. It may not be his best statistical season, but his experience and championship pedigree will serve him well in the competition.
Binnington and the St. Louis Blues will return to the ice on Saturday when they face the Columbus Blue Jackets at Enterprise Center. The puck drops at 7 p.m. EST.
