In Tuesday's "32 Thoughts" column, Elliotte Friedman suggested that the Chicago Blackhawks should do everything possible to hire David Carle as their next head coach.

"If I were the Blackhawks, I would do everything possible to prevent Denver coach David Carle from even reaching the market. If Carle wishes to coach the Pioneers through the rest of the season in search of a second-straight title and third in four years, no problem, but the Blackhawks are in a unique spot where they can strike now — even if it means he isn’t coming until April..." Friedman wrote.

Carle has had great success with Denver, leading the team to NCAA national championships in 2022 and 2024. He became head coach in 2018 after working as an assistant coach for several years.

Friedman noted that Hawks General Manager Kyle Davidson’s recent comments showed a desire for change. A top coach like Carle could help the team rebuild and energize fans.

"When Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson confronted his players after the Winter Classic, it was a signal the status quo is not acceptable." Friedman wrote. "They were embarrassed. You can’t always rush a rebuild, but you have to compete and certainly can energize your fanbase by landing a coveted coach."

Carle’s playing career ended early due to a heart condition, but he quickly transitioned into coaching.

Despite these challenges, Connor Bedard, their 2023 first overall pick, leads the team with 35 points (10 goals, 25 assists). Tyler Bertuzzi follows with 14 goals. The Hawks' power play sits at 23.3% (14th), and their penalty kill is strong at 83.6% (5th). These performances mark key steps in their ongoing rebuild.
