In the midst of trade speculations, Dylan Larkin has been named to a list of players who are expected to be dealt with before the trade deadline. However, it is believed that the Detroit Red Wings captain desires to stay with the team and wishes to extend his contract.
Dylan Larkin is one of the best players in the NHL and many teams are also interested in signing him for his services.
However, recently Elliotte Friedman of 32 Thoughts, shared his thoughts on what is going on with the Larkin camp and the Red Wings as the tradeline approaches.
Elliotte believes that the Red Wings captain is going nowhere at this trade deadline:
"Well, first of all, I don't think he is going to get traded. That's the first thing I would say. I do believe teams have asked. I believe they’ve been rebuffed and I don't think he is going anywhere."
He further added:
"The one thing I remember last year that in the summer, Dylan Larkin had a no trade clause that kicked in on July 13th and when he wasn't traded at that time, I took that to believe that Steve Yzerman thought Dylan Larkin was going to sign."
Elliotte discussed Larkin's situation with the Red Wings, which hasn't gone well for either the player or the team in recent years. Despite this, Elliotte believes that Larkin still wants to play for the Red Wings.
"Yes, I would say it has. But I still think that Dylan Larkin wants to a Red Wing and I think the Red Wings want him to be a Red Wing and ultimately, I do believe that this is going to get done."
The Detroit Red Wings captain is currently on a five-year, $30.5 million contract that he signed on August 18, 2018. He has a $6.1 million salary cap hit and will be an unrestricted free agent in July.
According to other reports, Larkin's camp anticipates a contract extension with a $9 million salary beginning next season. The Detroit Red Wings, on the other hand, are said to be interested in him for $8 million. It remains to be seen how the negotiations progress in the coming days.
