Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto is a passionate New York Jets fan. On Monday's episode of "Spittin Chiclets" podcast, Pinto shared his frustrations about supporting the $6.9 billion NFL franchise, per Forbes. He explained how their poor performances often affect his mood.
“I think that's the one team that could genuinely ruin my day,” Pinto said.
Pinto described how he now understands the emotions of fans who criticize the team.
"I'm starting to understand now when people get their mood ruined from our performances." Pinto said, "I'm sitting on the couch and I'm just ripping the jets and like, you know, our defense, or whatever.
"Now I get the fans, they're shredding us, and we're playing bad. It's totally understandable because when I watch, I sit down for three hours of my time and I just watch this. It's horrible. And just the way they just like, I don't know, they're just so sloppy."
The Jets have many talented players, including Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, but the team continues to struggle.
“We have so many talented players," Pinto said. " ... And it’s just gone to sh**. Even with DaVante, it means nothing.”
This season has been tough for their fans, as the Jets are 4-11, including 2-5 at home and 2-6 on the road. Their divisional record is just 1-3.
Despite the challenges, Pinto remains hopeful for the future. He mentioned the possible return of Aaron Rodgers.
“I think next year, hopefully, we’ll be better," Pinto said. "We’ll probably bring back Rodgers for one more. But who knows?”
While hopeful, Pinto admitted it’s hard to expect much.
Shane Pinto and Ottawa's six-game winning streak ended in loss to Oilers
The Ottawa Senators ended their six-game win streak after a 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. They previously won against the Detroit Red Wings (5-1), Carolina Hurricanes (3-0), Pittsburgh Penguins (3-2 OT), Seattle Kraken (3-0), Calgary Flames (3-2 OT) and Vancouver Canucks (5-4 OT). Shane Pinto scored six points during this stretch with two multipoint nights.
In the first period, Viktor Arvidsson gave Edmonton a 1-0 lead after Connor McDavid won a puck battle and set him up.
Early in the second period, Nick Cousins tied it 1-1 with a breakaway goal, stealing the puck from Evan Bouchard before Zach Hyman regained the lead for the Oilers on a power play, scoring off a rebound from Arvidsson’s shot.
In the third period, Adam Henrique secured Edmonton’s victory. Senators goalie Linus Ullmark left after the first period with an injury and Leevi Merilainen made 12 saves in relief for Ottawa.
