Back in July, Elias Lindholm signed a seven-year contract worth $52.5 million with the Boston Bruins. After a move from Calgary to Vancouver midway through last season, Lindholm hit free agency this summer, and was quickly scooped up by the Bruins.
Now, as he looks ahead at the 2024-25 NHL season, Lindholm and his wife are adjusting to life in Boston, and putting the finishing touches on their new home, where it appears they will remain for the long haul. By the time Lindholm's contract ends, the Swedish star will be 35-years-old, and likely close to wrapping up his career.
In a series of posts on Instagram, Lindholm's wife, Annica, gave fans an inside look at their home renovations, and some family outings while they prepare for the birth of their second child.
Photos of the their home renovations show a bathroom remodel, as well as the NHL star assembling what appears to be a playset. Several photos of them out on the town in Boston feature the family at various places around the city, getting acclimated to the change in scenery.
The caption, posted in Swedish, appears to translate to:
"Trying to fill up the house with furniture, fixing up Levi's playroom, tidying up the garden, going to midwife visits, discovering Boston and enjoying myself so much already."
"It was kind of an easy decision." Elias Lindholm opens up on decision to join Boston Bruins
After logging a career-high 82 points in the 2021-22 season, which saw him average one point per game, Lindholm wound up getting traded by the Calgary Flames just two years later in the second half of the 2023-24 season.
The move was somewhat shocking given that Lindholm had played the best hockey of his career with the Flames. Over 26 regular season games with the Vancouver Canucks, he logged 12 points, with six goals before the team faced off with the Nashville Predators in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Lindholm began to find his rhythm in the playoffs, scoring 10 points in 13 games, with five goals as the team advanced to the second round. The Canucks fell to the Edmonton Oilers in the second round.
Speaking on NHL Network, Lindholm weighed in on the decision to sign with Boston:
"When Boston came into the picture, it was kind of an easy decision. I think being a Bruin is a dream -- a lot of history, a lot of great players.
"I think they're right there. They gave Florida a pretty good matchup there (in the playoffs) and the whole thing was just exciting to join. To be a Bruin felt like the right fit for me and my family."
With the 2024-25 NHL season rapidly approaching, it will be interesting to see how things play out for Lindholm and the Bruins.
