Steve Patrick, a well-known indie-pop drummer, made a funny remark following the announcement of his cousin, Chris Patrick, as the new GM of the Washington Capitals. As Chris' appointment was announced just before noon on Monday, his 35-year-old cousin Steve, was starting his day.

Seizing the opportunity, Steve wrote a funny and self-deprecating tweet to congratulate Chris, reflecting on the choices he made in his life.

"My cousin just became the GM of an NHL team and I just woke up at 11am with a hangover and binged stranger things and ate cheerios. being a musician was a choice I made," Steve Patrick on X posted.

In a heartfelt follow-up tweet, Steven Patrick set aside the jokes to express genuine admiration for his cousin, Chris Patrick. Emphasizing Chris' exceptional qualities, Steve described him as a brilliant and kind individual, highlighting his confidence in Chris' ability to excel in his new role.

"Jokes aside he’s a brilliant and kind human and he’s going to do such an incredible job and i’m so absurdly proud of my family," Steve wrote in the follow-up tweet.

Steve is the nephew of Capitals' chairman Dick Patrick. The 35-year-old has been making waves as the drummer for the popular rock band the 'Young Rising Sons.'

Established in 2010, the band wrapped up a successful headlining tour across the United States, commencing at Union Stage in Washington DC three months ago.

Chris Patrick becomes seventh GM in Caps' history

Chris Patrick became the seventh GM in Washington Capitals history. Before taking on this role, the 48-year-old served as the associate GM for 16 seasons at the club. He has also overseen the management of the Capitals' professional scouting team and maintained a close working relationship with the Hershey Bears, an AHL affiliate in Washington.

"We are thrilled to announce Chris' promotion to general manager," Capitals owner Ted Leonsis said (via NHL.com). "Chris is a dedicated and hard-working executive who is fully prepared for this next step in his career."
"His vision, extensive experience, hockey acumen and player evaluation make him the perfect leader to drive our team forward. We are confident that he will thrive in this new role."

Adding to Chris' impressive background, he hails from a distinguished hockey league. He is the son of Capitals chairman Dick Patrick and the great-grandson of Hockey Hall of Famer Lester Patrick.

When the 2024-25 NHL season begins in October this year, Chris will embark on his 17th year with the organization.
