Is Connor McDavid playing tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins? | February 23rd, 2023 | 2022-23 NHL season

Edmonton Oilers v Philadelphia Flyers
Connor McDavid will be hoping to add couple of more points tonight against the Penguins.

Connor McDavid became the fifth-fastest player in NHL history to reach the 800-point plateau of his career. On Tuesday (February 21), he accomplished this astounding accomplishment by leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in what was his 545th career game.

He is also now leading the NHL in goals scored this season. McDavid has participated in 58 games for the Oilers and has amassed 105 points, including 44 goals and 61 assists.

McDavid will be playing for the Oilers today against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He will be looking to add a couple more points to his already impressive career total.

"Once again, @cmcdavid97 is in elite company! The @EdmontonOilers forward becomes the fifth-fastest player in NHL history to hit 800 points!"- NHLPA

It is also interesting to note that Connor McDavid reached the 700-point milestone as well as the 800-point mark in the same season. With this accomplishment, the 26-year-old standout forward has joined an exclusive club of legends that includes Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Mike Bossy, and Peter Stastny.

Connor McDavid is on pace to achieve his fifth Art Ross Trophy

Connor McDavid is currently atop the NHL leaderboard with 105 points on the season. If the leaderboard remains the same by the end of the season, Connor McDavid will be tied for third all-time with five Art Ross Trophies. The Oilers star will also become the first player to win three consecutive Art Ross Trophies since Wayne Gretzky.

With 24 games left, the 26-year-old could reach the 150-point mark if he continues at the same pace. If he accomplishes this, he will become the first player to reach 150 points in a single season since 1989. He would be just the sixth player in NHL history to reach this milestone.

He has won the Art Ross Trophy four times, the Hart Memorial Trophy twice, and the Ted Lindsay Award three times. The only piece of silverware missing from McDavid's trophy cabinet is the coveted Stanley Cup.

The Edmonton Oilers are presently fourth in the Pacific Division with a 31-19-8 record. The Oilers are only three points behind the Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division. The Oilers currently lead the Western Conference Wild Card standings.

They are on track to make the playoffs for the 25th time in their history. Since the 1989-90 season, the team has not won the Stanley Cup. It will be intriguing to see how Connor McDavid leads his team in their quest for their sixth Cup win.

The Edmonton Oilers will travel to PPG Paints Arena to face the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight. The puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
