Is Jakob Chychrun playing tonight against New York Rangers? | March 2, 2023 | 2022-23 NHL season

Ottawa Senators v Arizona Coyotes
Jakob Chychrun is likely to make his Senators debut against the Rangers tonight.

Jakob Chychrun is expected to make his debut for the Ottawa Senators against the New York Rangers on Thursday (March 2) at Madison Square Garden. The game's puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET. The game can be watched live on ESPN+ and Sportsnet.

Jakob Chychrun's trade saga, which has been ongoing since last season, came to an end just two days before the trade deadline. The Arizona Coyotes finally traded Chychrun to the Ottawa Senators on March 1.

The Coyotes received a first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft as part of the deal.

Jakob Chychrun has not been seen on the ice since Feb. 10, when he was left out of the lineup due to trade-related issues. The wait is over, and Jakob will now return to the ice wearing the "Sens" jersey with the number 6 on the back.

Ottawa Senators have a legitimate shot at making the postseason this season

The "Sens" position after the regular season will be one of the most exciting things to see before heading to the playoffs. The Ottawa Senators are on a three-game winning streak, with their most recent two victories coming against another playoff contender, the Detroit Red Wings.

The "Sens" are currently placed sixth in the Eastern Conference's Wild Card standings. They are only five points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are placed second in the Eastern Wild Card standings.

Jakob's addition is a huge win for the "Sens," as he is the type of defenseman who helps create more chances, especially on the power play. The addition of Jakob to the roster will strengthen the "Sens" blue line, making the team more of a threat to the other East Wild Card contenders.

Jakob Chychrun's NHL career

Chychrun began his professional ice hockey career in 2014 with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League. During his time in the OHL, the 24-year-old received the Red Tilson Trophy as the league's most outstanding player.

The Arizona Coyotes selected him 16th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry draft. He has been a member of the same franchise ever since. Jakob Chychrun has played 36 games this season and has 28 points (7 goals, 21 assists).

During his seven-year NHL career, the 24-year-old has played 373 games and amassed 170 points (60 goals and 110 assists). It will be interesting to see how he puts up his numbers in the Sens jersey.
