Fans reacted as the Montreal Canadiens suffered a tough 6-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night.

The loss had fans taking to social media to vent their frustrations, with much of the criticism directed at rookie defenseman Lane Hutson.

The 20-year-old failed to register a point or a shot in Monday's game. That led one disgruntled fan to tweet:

"IS LAME HUTSON THE FUTURE OF THE HABS? BIGGEST BUST OF ALL TIME??" highligting Huston lack of point in the game and also no shots were taken by him.

Another wrote:

"My four month old son watched his first Habs game of the season tonight. Mid-third period he asked if Hutson was playing…I said yes: No pts, -3, with 0 SOGs. He threw up on his Hutson bobblehead and fell asleep. Never again"

Here are some more fan reactions:

"It wasn't our best match, we're going to start again on Thursday," one fan wrote on X.
"Cole and Lane are still 4 pts in 4 games who cares," another fan wrote.
"Not supposed to win them all, not supposed to make the playoffs, relax kids :)," a user commented.
"Didnt have enough tonight. to much of this defence bs pinching and no one covering at the point. they scored like 2 of their goals like that," another user wrote.

Pittsburgh got goals from Lars Eller (twice), Kevin Hayes, Kris Letang, Rickard Rakell and Evgeni Malkin. For Montreal side, Kaiden Guhle, Emil Heineman and Juraj Slafkovsky found the back of the net.

Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry made 25 saves in the win, while Sam Montembeault stopped 26 shots for the Canadiens. The Canadiens next face the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night at the Bell Centre.

Montreal Canadiens HC Martin St. Louis on Lane Huston

Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis discussed rookie defenseman Lane Huston's performance postgame. St. Louis acknowledged that Huston is still learning.

"He'll (Huston) kind of learn as he goes what he can get away with and not,it's part of learning. You know, we'll keep having conversations about it," St. Louis said post-game (as per The Hockey News).
"It's what I mean; you've got to be careful with the way you coach those guys. Is this a trend? Is this a one off? Like in terms of his risk taking, but you know, he plays with a lot of good intentions."

St. Louis wants to be careful about how he coaches Huston to ensure that he doesn't stifle the rookie's natural instincts too much.
