If anyone is having one of the best individual seasons in the NHL, it has to be Connor McDavid, who scored a goal in the Edmonton Oilers' 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
With his goal on the night, the Oilers power forward has 61 goals for the season and 300 for his NHL career. The Edmonton Oilers captain became only the 11th youngest player in league history to reach the 300-goal plateau.
Soon after this remarkable achievement by the Edmonton Oilers captain, hockey enthusiasts did not shy away from showering praise for McDavid on Twitter. Here are some of the reactions from the fans:
The record for the youngest player to achieve the 300-goal milestone currently belongs to another Edmonton legend, "The Great One," Wayne Gretzky himself, who achieved this feat at just 22 years and 321 days old.
With six games remaining on the schedule, Connor McDavid is on pace to achieve other milestones this season. Here are some of the records the Oilers captain is on pace to achieve this season.
#1. Connor McDavid is just shy of nine goals to join the 70-goal club
Only 9 players in NHL history have reached the 70-goal mark in a single season. Wayne Gretzky holds the record for the most goals in a season with 92. As of now, McDavid has scored 61 goals with six games remaining on the schedule. The 26-year-old has a realistic shot at reaching 70 goals in the season, given his form. He would become just the 9th player in league history to accomplish this feat.
#2- On pace to win his third consecutive Art Ross Trophy
Connor McDavid is currently atop the NHL leaderboard with 146 points on the season. The leaderboard now likely seems to remain the same by the end of the season, and Connor McDavid will be tied for third all-time with five Art Ross trophies. The Edmonton Oilers star will also become the first player to win three consecutive Art Ross trophies since Wayne Gretzky.
#3- Shy of only six points to achieve the 150-point mark
McDavid has accumulated 146 points in 77 games this season. With six games left, the 26-year-old has a good shot at reaching the 150-point mark if he continues at the same pace. Should he achieve this, he will become the first player to reach 150 points in a single season since Mario Lemioux (161) in 1995-96. He would be just the sixth player in NHL history to reach this milestone.
