It was a memorable return for Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller, who received loud "JT Miler" chants at Rogers Arena during Thursday's 4-0 win over the Florida Panthers.
Miller had taken a leave of absence on Nov. 19 and missed the subsequent 10 games for the Canucks. During his absence, the team recorded a 5-3-2 record, earning 12 points.
J.T. Miller made an impact upon his return by providing two assists. His first assist came on Brock Boeser's goal that gave the Canucks a 3-0 lead in the second period. Miller provided his second assist to Jake DeBrusk's game-winning goal on the power play at 12:55 of the third period.
This marked his first point since a game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 16. In his return, the 31-year-old forward logged 14:17 minutes of ice time across 22 shifts, including one hit, and won 11 faceoffs.
Rick Tocchet and Brock Boeser reflect on J.T. Miller's performance
The Vancouver Canucks secured a comprehensive home victory over the Minnesota Wild. They improved their record to 15-8-8, in fourth place in the Pacific Division.
After the game, Brock Boeser expressed that Miller's performance was expected, given his status as an elite player known for his consistency.
“It doesn’t surprise me, you know, he’s such an elite player, and he shows what he can do night in, night out,” Boeser said of his good buddy doing so well on his return to the lineup.
Head coach Rick Tocchet also commented on Miller's performance, noting that he did an excellent job throughout the game.
“I thought he did a good job against Barkov. He’s a big guy in the middle. You know, it’s tough to go around him,” Tocchet said via The Province.
J.T. Miller has racked up 18 points through six goals and 12 assists in 18 games this season. The Canucks host the Boston Bruins at Rogers Arena next on Saturday. The puck drops at 10 p.m. ET.
