The New York Rangers suffered another body blow as the team announced that their captain Jacob Trouba was ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. According to the Rangers, Trouha suffered an upper-body injury.

He was injured about 12 minutes into the opening round. It happened when the captain was pushed into Tanner Jeannot by Corey Perry. The latter clipped the defenseman's shoulder. Trouba tripped and fell to the ice on his face, capping the series of events.

He returned to the bench and appeared to be jolted by that push. After that, the Rangers captain went down the tunnel. Rangers coach Gerard Gallant has said that Trouba is being monitored on a day-to-day basis and is traveling with the team for the upcoming game against the St. Louis Blues.

Rangers RW Patrick Kane also missed the game due to what Gallant described as a maintenance day/lower-body ailment. Due to this, the Blueshirts were forced to present only 11 forwards and seven defensemen.

On Wednesday night, the New York Rangers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-3 courtesy of two doubles from Chris Kreider and Tyler Motte. The Rangers were unfazed by Jacob Trouba and Patrick Kane's injuries and kept on doing what they do.

For the Rangers to win for the fifth time in seven games and improve to 11-2-2 in their past 15 games, they needed goals from Kaapo Kakko and Artemi Panarin, as well as three assists from Mika Zibanejad, two from Barclay Goodrow, and one each from Adam Fox. Igor Shesterkin won for the seventh time in his previous 11 outings after stopping 28 shots.
