New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury addressed the status of team captain Jacob Trouba on Tuesday ahead of training camp.
Trouba was the subject of trade rumors this offseason after a disappointing 2023-24 campaign, but Drury emphasized that the two have a strong relationship.
"Jacob and I talk all the time, as GM and captain should. I would even include Lavi (NY HC Peter Laviolette) in those conversations," Drury said.
"Obviously, being captain, he runs our dressing room and is head of the leadership group. We've had a number of different conversations over the course of the summer, on a lot of different things."
Drury made it clear that he still has confidence in Trouba's ability to lead the Rangers despite his struggles last season.
"He is very clear as to where he stands with me and what I think of him as a player and as a leader," Drury said.
Drury expressed admiration for the captain's performance.
“As a captain, there’s so many moving parts that go in and out of being captain, especially in New York and especially the Rangers captain. Excited to have him back, excited for training camp. I know he had a terrific offseason, training wise.”
Trouba is entering his third season as the Rangers captain. He had a career-low 3 goals and 19 points in 69 games last season, struggling defensively as well. Trouba broke his ankle in March, missing 11 games, which contributed to his poor finish.
