Jakob Chychrun was one of the most anticipated trade deadline names. His trade saga began last season and ended on March 1st, when the Coyotes traded him to the Ottawa Senators.
Elliotte Friedman of "32 Thoughts" recently shared his thoughts on the Arizona Coyotes trading Jakob Chychrun to the Senators. According to Friedman, Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong put the "Sens" in a better position after trading Chychrun, and the picks received from the Ottawa Senators are worth less because the "Sens" are in a better position than the Coyotes.
"Armstrong has a point, a higher draft pick is better than two late first round draft picks. He's absolutely right about that. No.1 he has made Ottawa a better team by putting Jakob chychrun on the roster, he increases the percentage that the Ottawa picks decreases in value because sens is better and no. 2 ott is not gonna take gas off the pedal."
He went on to say that "Sens" has no margin for error and that this will be the first race in the playoffs for the team's young players. Elliott further stated that this trade was a letdown for the Coyotes after hearing so many times about what this trade would be, but it turned out to be in a completely different way.
"After everything we heard about what this trade is going to be, it seems like a letdown and I think for the Coyotes in terms of what they got vs what their reported ask was combined with everything else that is going on in their organization right now, it just doesn't feel good at all."
Jakob Chychrun's debut for the Senators ended with a 5-3 win over the New York Rangers
Due to trade-related issues, Jakob Chychrun was forced to sit out of the Arizona Coyotes' lineup. He hasn't been seen on the ice since February 10th.
However, following his trade, Chychrun returned to the ice and made his "Sens" debut in a 5-3 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, March 2nd.
The Senators are on a four-game winning streak and have a realistic chance of making the playoffs from the East Wild Card. They are only four points behind the second-placed New York Islanders in the standings.
The Ottawa Senators will welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday, March 4th. Jakob Chychrun is all set to make his home debut. The puck drop for the game is scheduled for 7 pm ET.
