Trade rumors surrounding defenseman Jakob Chychrun continue to heat up, with many experts believing that a trade is imminent. The 24-year-old defenseman of the Arizona Coyotes has been linked to rumors all season, as the club continues its rebuild.
"BREAKING: Coyotes D Jakob Chychrun is a healthy scratch tonight versus the St. Louis Blues due to trade related reasons. The panel has more #HockeyNightPunjabi" - Hockey Night Punjabi
The Arizona Coyotes defenseman has legitimate top-four potential and would be an excellent addition to any contender's defensive core. The fact that he remains under contract with the club until 2024-25, and is only 24 years old, makes him a more intriguing option for a potential suitor.
Several teams have been linked to Chychrun, including the Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins. As Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman wrote in his 32 Thoughts column last week, "Boston is also believed to be in the left-defense market. Would not be surprised if they’ve checked in on Jakob Chychrun"
"Boston Bruins have a great team, and a great chance to win the Stanley Cup in 2023, but Don Sweeney’s poor drafting puts the B’s at a big disadvantage in trying to add a meaningful forward (Patrick Kane?) of defenseman (Jakob Chychrun?) if the seller wants prospects. #NHLBruins" - Dan Kelley
The Boston Bruins would be the perfect fit for the 24-year-old defenseman, as not only does the team need help this season, but his youth could make him a key piece moving forward.
A look at Jakob Chychrun's NHL career so far
The native of Boca Raton, Florida, was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes with the 16th overall pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Chychrun has been one of the most productive players to come out of the 2016 draft class, which included Auston Matthews and Matthew Tkachuk, as well as Coyotes teammate Clayton Keller.
"With the NHL not going to the Olympics this season, has Canada missed its last opportunity to be the clear favourites for Gold? In the drafts since 2016, the tide has shifted towards the USA. Will it be enough to change the dynamics of international hockey for good?" - @JFreshHockey
Through 373 games with the Arizona Coyotes, Chychrun has scored 60 goals while also recording 110 assists for a career points total of 170 points, which ranks him 13th from the 2016 Draft Class. A move elsewhere should benefit not only his counting stats but his career plus/minus, which currently sits at -38.
