Boston Bruins Jakub Lauko injury update

In the Tuesday night matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins forward Jakub Lauko found himself at the center of a terrifying incident that had fans and players alike holding their breath. The 23-year-old Czech player was cut in the face by a skate, forcing him out of the game and raising serious concerns about his well-being.

The incident occurred in the third period, during a scrappy battle along the boards near the Blackhawks bench. As Lauko fell to the ice in the midst of a fierce puck battle, Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson, under pressure from Bruins rookie John Beecher, lost his balance, causing his left skate to lift off the ice. It was this moment that led to the skate making contact with Lauko's face.

Lauko was quickly rushed off the ice, his face bloodied, and was immediately taken to the Bruins' locker room with a towel covering his injury. The sight was undoubtedly unsettling for all involved, with fans fearing the worst.

However, subsequent reports have brought a glimmer of relief. Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic has confirmed that Jakub Lauko did not sustain an eye injury, mitigating what could have been a catastrophic situation. Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery has further eased concerns by stating that Lauko is "good" and "will be fine."

Though Lauko is considered day-to-day, this update provides much-needed optimism for the Bruins and their fans. Bruins supporters can now hope for Lauko's swift recovery and return to the ice as they face off against the Anaheim Ducks.

Jakub Lauko's NHL ascent and current season

Lauko has had a promising career in ice hockey. He was initially drafted by the Bruins in the third round, the No. 77 pick, of the 2018 NHL entry draft.

Lauko's journey began in his native Czech Republic, where he played two seasons with Piráti Chomutov in the Czech Extraliga before joining the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the QMJHL. During his QMJHL stint in the 2018-19 season, he contributed 41 points in 44 games and played a pivotal role in the Huskies' success, culminating in a Memorial Cup victory.

The 2019-20 season saw Lauko move to the Providence Bruins in the AHL. Despite a harrowing on-ice incident in December, he persevered, finishing the season with nine points in 22 games.

Jakub Lauko's big break came in the 2022-23 NHL season, making his debut for the Boston Bruins. Throughout the season, he showcased his skills, recording four goals and three assists in 23 NHL games. His journey continues, marked by dedication and a recently signed two-year contract with the Bruins. This season, he has played six games, aiming to make his mark as a valuable asset for the team.
