Former Pittsburgh Penguins legend Jaromir Jagr was watching Czechia’s bronze medal game at the 2025 World Juniors on TV in his home on Sunday. Following Czechia's win against Sweden, Jagr gave a one-word reaction to their effort. He wrote "Super".
Jaromir Jagr shared his response with his fans on his Instagram story, celebrating a historic moment for his country.
Czechia secured the bronze medal after defeating Sweden 3-2 in a record-breaking 14-round shootout. Captain Eduard Sale scored the winning goal on the 28th shootout attempt. Sale faked a move and then sent the puck past Swedish goalie Marcus Gidlof. His teammates rushed to celebrate on the ice, marking the end of a hard-fought game.
Sale, a Seattle Kraken prospect, became the first player to take five shootout attempts in a single game. His calm under pressure helped Czechia secure its third consecutive medal at the tournament. He ranked 9th on the tournament leaderboard with 6 goals and 2 assists with a rating of 4.
"It was tough for me," Sale said, via IIHF.com, "I had a couple chances in overtime. In a shootout, it was like 50-50, but I wanted to win the game. So it was pressure for me when the Swedish guy scored and I just had to score too. After I scored, I just knew I would score again. So it was something special."
In regulation, Jakub Stancl and Sale scored for Czechia, while David Edstrom scored twice for Sweden. Swedish forward Felix Unger Sorum provided two assists. Both teams created chances in the 10-minute overtime, but goalies Michael Hrabal and Marcus Gidlof kept the game tied.
Jaromir Jagr's praise was well deserved since Czechia won their third medal
This win gave Czechia its third medal in three years, following silver in 2023 and bronze in 2024. Sale became the first Czech player to medal three years in a row. Czech coach Patrik Augusta praised him, joking that a statue might be built in his honor.
"I told him before the game, he had a chance to be the only Czech player to win the three medals in a row with the [World Juniors]. And now maybe they can build him a statue, I don't know!"
For Czechia, this victory was a moment of pride. The team fought hard throughout the tournament, showing resilience after their semifinal loss to the U.S. This win marked another chapter in Czechia’s growing success at the World Juniors. It also showed the potential of young players like Eduard Sale. Jaromir Jagr's simple message captured the pride of Czech fans everywhere.
