Jay Rosehill floats interesting trade proposal for Canucks' J.T. Miller and 'aging' $60,000,000 Maple Leafs' D-man

The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly looking into trades for both J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson. As the feud between the two continues, the Canucks, who'd prefer not to move either player, have started parsing through their options.

Jay Rosehill believes a trade could happen, and he has a potential fit for Miller to be swapped for Morgan Rielly, a defenseman who is on a $60 million contract but isn't really living up to it.

Rosehill quickly said he'd take that deal if he were the Toronto Maple Leafs (via TheLeafsNation):

"A playoff performer who wants to win that bad for an aging, probably best is behind him D-man that's not really shown up a lot in the last couple of years with some shades of performance. Yeah, I would make that trade."

Nick Alberga, Rosehill's co-host, said the Leafs would do well to move on from Rielly since he "doesn't have it" anymore. Alberga said he's been a big supporter of the defenseman who's been so good for Toronto in the last few years, but it might be time to move on from a player who's not providing much.

Trade chatter around J.T. Miller continues to increase

The Vancouver Canucks don't want to trade either of their superstar players, but J.T. Miller would be an easier trade to make. He's older, which means teams will be more likely to spring. His return wouldn't be as great as Pettersson's, so teams won't be as hesitant.

NHL insider Darren Dreger believes teams are proving this by asking about Miller lately.

"There’s been a lot more chatter, certainly around J.T. Miller," he said, via Sekeres and Price. "I don’t think anyone would be surprised by that because his name always seems to find that rumor mill."
"You had Patrik Allvin talk about what was once an alleged rift between [Miller and Pettersson]. Now the allegations have been removed. You don’t have to like your coworker, I can appreciate that, and maybe it’s much ado about very little, but I think that that did fuel this speculation, fuel the fire among clubs around the National Hockey League who admit that the chatter specific to J.T. Miller has increased."

All reports suggest that the Canucks don't want to move him, but a lot of teams, including the New York Rangers, have expressed interest.
