Former NHL star Jeremy Roenick tweeted his disgust following Tim Panaccio’s comments regarding an incident involving ex-President Donald Trump. Since posting his comments, Panaccion deleted the tweet. However, that didn’t stop Jeremy Roenick from expressing his thoughts:
“Shame on you Tim!! You’re disgusting to put this tweet out!! A woman died because of this horrible event!! You should be ashamed of yourself!! You’re part of the problem with this country.”
Roenick’s comments have been met with support from fans across the league. While Jeremy Roenick isn’t necessarily taking a political stance on the issue, Roenick’s comments focus on the unfortunate death of a spectator at President Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania.
There is no official word as to the nature of the incident involving Trump. Initial reports suggest a gunman fired in Trump’s direction, unfortunately striking a woman behind him.
In the meantime, Roenick is among the large numbers of people who have decried the incident, calling for a stop to violence. It remains to be seen if Tim Pannacion will issue an apology for his comments. The comments have not been reproduced in this article out of sensitivity to the people injured in the incident.
Jeremy Roenick respected across the NHL
Jeremy Roenick’s recent selection into the Hockey Hall of Fame is the capstone of a career that saw him achieve great accomplishments. Roenick was drafted eighth overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1988, leading the club to multiple playoff appearances.
Unfortunately, Roenick never won a Stanley Cup in his career, despite reaching the 1992 Cup Final with the Blackhawks. That year, the Hawks lost to Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Roenick had several seasons in which he tallied over 50 goals and 100 points. He was also a decorated Olympian with Team USA. Roenick retired as the all-time leading scorer among American-born players.
Roenick is now officially a Hall of Famer. NHL.com captured Roenick’s reaction on his election:
“This is the cherry on top.”
Indeed, it’s a cherry following several personal issues on and off the ice. Roenick battled through them all despite not always being the easiest person to get along with. Roenick stated:
“I probably should’ve been more humble in my career.”
Roenick said:
“This is the most I’ve ever felt humbled.”
Roenick’s leadership on and off the ice, despite personal issues, has made him one of the most respected voices in the game. His appearances on television broadcasts are a testament to his standing as one of the league’s most valued members.
