After the Boston Bruins' 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils, Jeremy Swayman faced criticism from fans. Swayman allowed four goals on 29 shots, with a .862 save percentage.
The second period was especially disastrous for Swayman and the Bruins. The Devils recorded 17 shots on goal and scored four goals. Dawson Mercer and Dougie Hamilton scored two goals in the first five minutes of the second period. Stefan Noesen and Dawson Mercer scored two more for the Devils within 15 seconds, at 16:01 and 16:13.
Fans criticized Swayman's performance and questioned his $66 million contract signed in October 2024.
"Swayman is complete trash. What idiot gave him 8x8.25?," one questioned.
"Swayman is just as do****t as the rest of this team. Hopefully he’s gone next year because he fu***ng su**s," another fan wrote.
"The team is a disaster. Never would have signed swayman to that contract...," one fan wrote.
Zadorov, who signed a six-year, $30 million, contract with the Bruins in July 2024, defended Jeremy Swayman:
"Well I mean when Pete and me got stuck there for 3+ minutes, he made a couple of big saves. Couple of backdoor sees, kept us in the game. He is the last guy to blame in this room. He has been playing lights out for us. We all know for sure we got to go out there and play harder in front of him."
Jeremy Swayman's record for the season is 15-16-4, with a 2.94 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage.
Bruins coach Joe Sacco mentioned that Swayman had a minor issue during the game.
"We'll see." Sacco said, "He (Swayman) was dealing with something minor, so we thought it would be best the way the game was going to get him out there after the second period, and we'll see how it is tomorrow."
The Bruins next face the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman fail to curb Devils offense
The Boston Bruins lost 5-1 to the Devils at Prudential Center. Morgan Geekie gave the Bruins the lead at 5:50 in the first.
The Devils, though, quickly responded with Dawson Mercer’s goal at 1:24 of the second to tie the game. Dougie Hamilton then put New Jersey 2-1 ahead with a power-play goal at 4:12. Stephen Noecen made it 3-1 at 16:01 off a power-play before Mercer scored again at 16:13, making it 4-1.
Nico Hischier added another power-play goal at 13:32 of the third to make it 5-1. Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins couldn’t recover after the Devils' strong second period as they fell to a heavy defeat.
