Jeremy Swayman's agent, Lewis Gross, recently discussed how Boston Bruins president Cam Neely's "$64 million reasons" comment impacted contract talks. Gross said it helped start more conversations between both sides. This led to a resolution, with Swayman signing an eight-year $66 million deal.

“In a lot of ways, it jump-started these negotiations,” Gross said per The Athletic on Monday. “Because we talked a lot. We both had to express ourselves, Don and I, about what we had just experienced. And having done this for over 30 years, any time you have a chance to speak, you have a chance to come to a resolution.

Gross also said that talking openly made the negotiations move forward. He added that his long relationship with Bruins general manager Don Sweeney also helped throughout the process.

“If you don’t speak, you’re not going to get a resolution. So I think (Neely’s Statement) in a lot of ways jump-started these negotiations and helped us get it to the finish line.”

During Wednesday's press conference, Cam Neely shared his belief that Jeremy Swayman wanted to remain in Boston. He also hinted at the team's offer to Swayman.

"I know I have 64 million reasons why I'd be playing right now."

Swayman also addressed Neely's comments but focused on the positive outcome of the agreement.

"Our party and our team know the truth," Swayman said to the media. "At the same time, we found an agreement and the fact that I could be here for eight years gives me goosebumps saying that."

Swayman is expected to take on a larger role as the Bruins' top goalie after Linus Ullmark was traded. The new deal secures Swayman’s future in Boston until the 2031-32 season.

Jeremy Swayman's contract was a "day-by-day thing"

Jeremy Swayman received a lot of media attention and uncertainty about his contract. He missed training camp, which started on Sept. 18 due to stalled negotiations. After finalizing his deal, Swayman shared his excitement about staying with the Boston Bruins for eight years.

"I'm just so excited to be a Boston Bruin," Swayman said per NHL.com.

Last season, Swayman had a strong performance with a 25-10-8 record and a 2.53 goals-against average in 44 regular season games. He also earned six wins in 12 playoff games with a 2.15 GAA.

Swayman said that the negotiation process was a "day-by-day thing." Now, he's happy it's over and is fully focused on being the Bruins' goaltender.
