The tragic death of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau in August last year left the entire hockey community grieving. Since then, the Gaudreau family has been paying special tributes to the memory of the two brothers.

On Friday, Johnny Gaudreau’s mother, Jane, shared a couple of throwback photos on her Instagram stories. The first image was originally posted by Johnny’s sister, Kristen, and was titled “13 YEARS AGO.”

In the photo, Jane Gaudreau, a young Johnny and Kristen were sitting together at a warmly lit restaurant table. Johnny sported a gray shirt and a patterned tie, Jane wore a white sweater over a black turtleneck and Kristen was dressed in a navy blue jacket with a striped muffler.

The second image was a family picture of the two Gaudreau boys with their parents, Jane and Guy Gaudreau. Johnny, Matthew and Guy all smiled at the camera while Jane posed behind Guy, wearing a patterned outfit.

The two NHL stars died in a tragic road accident on Aug. 29 in Salem County, New Jersey, when an allegedly drunk driver struck the brothers while they were riding their bicycles.

Prosecutors offered the accused driver, Sean Higgins, a deal to plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The proposed sentence included 15 years for each manslaughter charge and five years for leaving the scene, which he had rejected earlier this month.

In December, a grand jury indicted Higgins on six charges, including reckless vehicular homicide and aggravated manslaughter. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years for each manslaughter charge.

Johnny Gaudreau's wife got special cremation tattoos in honor of late husband

Earlier this week, New Jersey-based tattoo artist Tay Nicole Clinch shared on Instagram that Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith, had a special tattoo done using Johnny’s ashes in the ink.

She shared that Meredith approached her about a month ago to request the cremation tattoo. Meredith got a touching “forever” inked on the side of her ring finger, as well as the names of their two children, “Noa Harper” and “Johnny Edward,” tattooed on her forearm.

Clinch admitted it was her first time doing a cremation tattoo but ensured the process was approached carefully, with medical clearance to confirm its safety. In her post, Clinch thanked Meredith for trusting her with such a meaningful project.

Meredith, in turn, praised the tattoo artist for her work, calling it “perfectly done.”

“Obsessed with them. Perfectly done by the best and coolest girl,” she wrote in the comments of Clinch's post.

This was not Meredith’s first tribute tattoo for Johnny. In December, during the Flames tribute week in Calgary, she had a tattoo of Johnny Gaudreau’s signature done in his memory.
