Habs forward Cole Caufield scored his 13th goal of the season on Wednesday during their matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets. And he did so in the 13th minute of the game, wearing late NHL star Johnny Gaudreau’s No. 13 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.
Johnny's sister Katie Gaudreau immediately reacted to the iconic goal on her Instagram stories. She shared a post from Spittin’ Chiclets’ Instagram account on her story and appreciated the goal with the caption:
“👏👏👏13”
After the goal, Caulfield looked above towards the rafters and seemingly dedicated the goal to Columbus’ late No. 13.
Earlier this week, Katie Gaudreau reposted a family throwback picture from eight years ago and mentioned how much she missed her brother. The image, originally shared by her sister Kristen, featured the late NHL stars Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau alongside their siblings and partners, all gathered on a couch.
Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew passed away in a tragic road accident in late August near Salem County. The hockey community has since paid heartfelt tributes to the memory of the two beloved hockey stars.
Johnny Gaudreau’s mother reacts to invitation to attend Calgary Flames vs. Columbus Blue Jackets game
The Calgary Flames have invited Johnny Gaudreau's family to a December 3 game against the Columbus Blue Jackets to honor Johnny’s contributions to the team and the Calgary community. For the Gaudreaus, it will be a bittersweet return to a city that holds cherished memories but also of immense pain following the tragic loss of Johnny and his brother Matthew in August.
Johnny’s mother, Jane Gaudreau, shared her gratitude toward the Flames organization and Calgary fans.
“We are deeply grateful to the Flames organization for inviting us back. Guy and I, along with our entire family, are looking forward to reconnecting with many friends in Calgary”, she said. [H/T Sportsnet]
Calgary became like a second home for the Gaudreaus during Johnny’s career. Jane fondly recalled how the city embraced her family, making them feel like part of a larger community.
“The love and support so many have shown for John, Matty, and our entire family has helped us through the hardest time of our lives," Jane said.
The past few months have been difficult for the Gaudreaus. However, Jane expressed how the outpouring of love from Calgary has provided strength.
