On Saturday, late Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau's sister, Katie Gaudreau, shared a Christmas family photo from nine years ago. The throwback photo shows the Gaudreau siblings in front of a decorated Christmas tree. The caption reads:

The Gaudreau family suffered a tragedy when Johnny and his brother Matthew Gaudreau were struck and killed by a drunk driver on Aug. 29 while biking together in Oldhams Township, New Jersey. They were in town for their sister’s wedding.

Johnny and his wife Meredith shared a two-year-old daughter, Noa, and a son, Johnny, now 20 months. At a memorial service in September, Meredith revealed she was expecting the couple’s third child. Matthew’s wife, Madeline, is pregnant with the couple’s first baby, a boy to be named Tripp.

Katie has shared many memories of her brothers on social media, including a childhood jersey signed by her brothers' team, a collage of childhood photos and a series of messages and throwback pictures of their family.

Johnny and Matthew's mother, Jane, shared a carousel of Christmas photos from over the years, just weeks after what would have been Matthew's 30th birthday.

On Dec. 3, the family returned to Calgary, where Johnny spent the first nine seasons of his NHL career, for a memorial event. The Calgary Flames honored the brothers with a video montage, a ceremonial puck drop and a memorial bench made of hockey sticks left by fans.

Special Christmas tribute for Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew

The hockey community rallied to support the Gaudreau family for their first holiday season since the tragedy. Johnny and Matthew were honored with a ceremony on Dec. 21 ahead of the game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.

"John and Matty Gaudreau were, and always will be, beloved and cherished members of the Flyers community and entire hockey world," the Flyers posted on Instagram.

The event included a ceremonial puck drop with on-ice appearances from Guy, Jane, Katie, Meredith, Noa and baby Johnny. The Flyers players also donned Gloucester Catholic High School jerseys, which is the high school team Johnny and Matthew played for. There was also a special tribute and video montage memorializing the brothers' lives.
