According to the Los Angeles Times, 28 people died in the blazes that have spread across southern Los Angeles. The major fires across the Pacific Palisades, Eaton, Laguna and Hughes are all at least 80% contained.
California experienced its first rainfall on Saturday which brought some relief to those affected by the fires, but experts warned that it might lead to mudslides and toxic ash runoff from the blazes. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the region on Sunday and Monday.
Johnny and his brother Matthew were tragically killed on Aug. 29 in a road accident in Salem, New Jersey. The brothers, in town for their sister Katie’s wedding, were riding bicycles when they were struck by a car allegedly driven by a drunk driver. The hockey community has since rallied to honor the brothers’ memories and support the Gaudreau family.
