Johnny Gaudreau's wife, Meredith, shared a two-word reaction to Sean Monahan's emotional goal celebration during tribute night. Monahan, who played alongside Gaudreau, honored his late best friend with a touching gesture on Tuesday.

During the Columbus Blue Jackets home opener against the Florida Panthers, Sean Monahan scored a goal to put his side up 2-1 at 11:22 of the second period after capitalizing on his rebound in front of the Panthers' net.

Monahan celebrated the goal by pointing to Johnny Gaudreau's banner, which was unveiled in a special ceremony before the game.

In a heartfelt Instagram post shared by Sportsnet, the photo captured the bond between Monahan and Gaudreau as they celebrated together during their stint in Calgary, while also highlighting Monahan's goal tribute to Johnny.

Meredith Gaudreau later reposted the image, adding a poignant two-word message to the Blue Jackets forward:

"Forever. Brothers."

Monahan joined Johnny's wife, Meredith and their children, Johnny and Noa, during the tribute ceremony. The heartfelt gesture celebrated Gaudreau's impact and legacy with the team.

Meredith reposted the clips and pictures on Instagram, thanking everyone for honoring Johnny through her stories.

Sean Monahan emotional after heartfelt tribute to Johnny Gaudreau

Monahan shared an emotional response after honoring Gaudreau, describing the moment as unforgettable and special.

Even though the Blue Jackets lost the game 4-3, he expressed that he could feel Johnny's presence throughout the day, making the tribute even more meaningful for him:

"It's hard, to be honest, It was a special, special moment that I'll remember forever," Monahan said
"I felt like Johnny was watching down on us today," Monahan added. "I had a feeling I was gonna get one. Fortunately enough, I did. We lost, which sucks, but I definitely could feel John today."

Sean Monahan and Johnny spent eight seasons together while playing for the Calgary Flames from 2014 to 2022. Monahan joined the Blue Jackets in the 2024-25 season after signing a five-year, $27.5 million deal with the club back in July.

Johnny and his brother Matthew Gaudreau tragically lost their lives after being hit by an alleged drunk driver while riding their bicycles in Salem Country, New Jersey, on Aug. 29.
