The Vegas Golden Knights secured a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday at Canada Life Centre. Nikita Chibrikov opened the scoring for Winnipeg at 9:27 of the first period, capitalizing on a rebound from Vladislav Namestnikov’s shot to tap the puck past Adin Hill.
After a scoreless second period, Keegan Kolesar tied the game 1-1 at 4:34 of the third. Shea Theodore forced a turnover in the Jets' zone, and Kolesar fired a low shot past a screened Connor Hellebuyck. Playing in his hometown, Kolesar said scoring in front of friends and family made the moment special.
“(We were) able to tie it up, then go down again, we stayed with it right to the very end,” Kolesar said per NHL.com, “We didn't let it waver in any way in our play, played right to the whistle and we were able to come up two points.”
Josh Morrissey restored the Jets' lead at 10:55 with a slap shot from the left circle, but Victor Olofsson answered for Vegas on a 5-on-3 power play at 18:11. Mark Stone delivered a perfect cross-crease pass, allowing Olofsson to bury a one-timer and force overtime.
Ivan Barbashev sealed the win 3:47 into overtime, finishing a 2-on-1 with Theodore.
