Edmonton Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch shared his thoughts after Connor McDavid accomplished a remarkable feat on Wednesday against the Minnesota Wild. He racked up three points, including two goals and an assist, propelling the Oilers to a 5-3 win.
With his three-point game, McDavid took his career tally to 1,044 points in 686 career games, surpassing Hall of Famer Jari Kurri's mark of 1,043 points in 754 games, making him the second-leading points scorer in Oilers history.
The record for the most points in Oilers history belongs to none other than Wayne Gretzky, who accumulated 1,669 points in 696 games during a nine-year stint.
Knoblauch praised Connor McDavid for his consistent ability to deliver remarkable performances. He noted that while he has come to expect the unexpected from McDavid over the years, the latest accomplishment is noteworthy and that the team takes great pride in his success (2:14 onwards).
"Quite a remarkable feat,” Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch said. “For him to go up the scoring list as quickly as he has, and within an organization that has had so many significant players, I’ve seen so many remarkable things from him. He’s a tremendous player and great teammate.
"I said I wouldn’t be surprised anymore just because he surprises you so often over these years, but it’s a nice feat for him, and the guys are very proud of him," Knoblauch added.
McDavid has accumulated 62 points through 19 goals and 43 assists in 41 games this season.
