Wayne Gretzky and Evander Kane have been in the headlines after both attended Donald Trump's inauguration ball as he became the 47th president of the United States of America. It was a surprise to many seeing Gretzky, a Canadian, born in Branford, Ontario appear at the Presidential inauguration.

Even more interesting was an image posted Wednesday on X (formerly Twitter) of Greztky and current Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane at the inauguration. The post was captioned "a legendary duo."

This sparked plenty of reaction on X. Here's what fans are saying in response to the photo and caption.

"Legendary traitor db's," one fan wrote.
"Legendary Oiler duo," one fan added.
"E Kane is legendary for the wrong reasons. Wayne on the other is the true definition of legendary," another fan added.

Fans continued to joke about the photo and poke fun at the two.

"1220 combined NHL goals right here," one fan wrote on X.
"Is there a second legend hanging in the back there?," another fan wrote.
"Duo? Who is the legendary second person?" another fan added.

Evander Kane has yet to play this season due to injury

Evander Kane has missed the entirety of the 2024-25 NHL season to date. The 33-year-old underwent abdominal surgery this offseason, which was scheduled to sideline him for five to six months.

Then just over a week ago, Kane underwent knee surgery for a separate injury that will put him on the shelf for another four to eight weeks. The deep playoff run that saw the Oilers lose in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to the Florida Panthers took a toll on Kane physically.

He and the Oilers hope to have him back on the ice sometime later this regular season or perhaps for the postseason.

The bruising winger was productive last season amassing 44 points (24 goals, 20 assists) in 77 regular-season games and eight points (four goals, four assists) in 20 playoff games.

The Oilers continue their season without Kane on Friday night against their bitter rivals the Vancouver Canucks. The puck drops at 9 p.m. EST at Rogers Place.
