Leon Draisaitl shared his thoughts on the Edmonton Oilers' $41 million forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ game-winning goal in the 4-3 overtime win against Utah Hockey Club.
Nugent-Hopkins stole the puck and scored an unassisted goal to seal the victory at 01:18 in overtime on Friday. Draisaitl called Nugent-Hopkins a "clutch player," who plays well in tight games (0:10).
"Yeah, of course, Nuggy is a clutch player." Draisaitl said after the win. "He plays really well in tight games. And, obviously, for him to get a reward, we probably get more excited about it than when he does, seemingly, but, yeah, obviously great, great play by him all around."
Nugent-Hopkins’ OT goal was his second in four games. He has three goals and 10 points in 23 games this season and has also added 47 shots and a minus-2 rating, playing regularly in the Oilers' top six.
Leon Draisaitl said that the key to the team's success against Utah was making the right decisions and finishing on their chances.
"I think we just made the right decisions. We got inside the dots and just finished on our looks, finished on our plate." Draisaitl said.
Draisaitl contributed with a power-play goal and an assist. He has scored in four straight games, registering 17 goals this season. His 17 goals put him just one behind Sam Reinhart for the NHL lead. Draisaitl also has 15 assists, 65 shots and a plus-11 rating in 23 games.
