Hockey fans aren't happy with the news of the new pro league Major League Hockey charging players to try out. Major League Hockey, a 3-on-3 pro league, was reported to come to fruition earlier this year. The pro hockey league said teams would be from locations like Texas, Ontario, Minnesota, Florida, Quebec, Arizona and others.
On Thursday, the league sent out a press release saying players could tryout, but they needed to pay $450 CDN or $375 USD to tryout, which hockey fans were not happy about.
"Anyone else see the irony in “free” agent tryouts costing $375," a fan wrote.
"It's like a wedding where they charge the guests to attend," a fan added.
Fans did not like what Major League Hockey was doing, as some wondered if the league would even survive.
"Is it normal to pay out of pocket for a tryout? What rinks have deals with this league? Who's selling tickets? Who's streaming/broadcasting the games? What refs have been contracted? Is there even a rule book?," a fan added.
"There are something very scetchy about this all," a fan wrote.
Many fans think the league is sketchy and will fail to even get going.
"No one will watch," a fan wrote.
"MAJOR LEAGUE HOCKEY! Brought to you ConEvilCo," a fan added.
The cities or arenas the league will be playing in are yet to be revealed.
Major League Hockey may postpone until 2025
Following Major League Hockey announcing the tryouts, NHL reporter Michael Russo reported that a decision will be made to postpone the league from Nov. to Oct. 2025. This comes after tryouts were postponed to late October.
"After postponing tryouts ‘til late October, I’m told a decision will be made this weekend whether or not to postpone the launch of the new MLH 3-on-3 league from November to Oct. 2025.
"It sounds like there’s a great chance of that due to a medical setback with the CEO. An official says it would still open business offices in at least 16 locations, including the Twin Cities," Russo reported.
Following Russo's report, hockey fans were even more worried about the league ever coming to fruition.
