Late Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau's younger sister Katie Gaudreau shared old Christmas photos of her family on Instagram. The pictures include her late brothers, Johnny and Matthew. They capture happy holiday moments with their father; Guy, mother; Jane, and sister; Kristen and her husband.
These photos captured the siblings posing casually over the years, always in front of the Christmas tree or fireplace. One photo, from 13 years ago, shows the siblings by a decorated tree, dressed in semi-formal clothes. Katie captioned it:
"Love them!"
Another photo, from eight years ago, includes Matthew holding Kristen's child in a red dress. The caption reflects nostalgia, saying:
"Merry Christmas Eve," while missing loved ones.
A picture from seven years ago shows the extended family standing together. Katie wrote:
"This Christmas we will have a lot of empty spots," acknowledging those no longer present and said, "Love my fam!"
"Hope mom-mom is in her rocking chair & the boys are sharing the couch. Also hope she spoiled them with cowtown socks, peanut jars filled with quarters, and all the love..." Katie wrote.
Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau died on August 29 in a bike accident in New Jersey. They were in town for their sister’s wedding. A suspected drunk driver caused the crash.
Katie’s pictures captured the time the family shared during the holidays. This is going to be their first Christmas without their brothers Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew.
Katie Gaudreau shared childhood jersey tribute to late brothers Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew
The NHL community continues to mourn Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau’s tragic deaths in late August. Their family has shared several special memories, and fans have shown their support.
Johnny’s sister Katie previously shared a childhood memory on Instagram. She posted a picture of a jersey signed by her brothers’ team when she was six.
Katie also shared a funny story about a night in Princeton when she and Johnny were jokingly kicked out of a bar. Despite the misunderstanding, they ended the night by crashing a bachelorette party, which Katie called “the best night ever.”
Earlier this month, the Calgary Flames honored the Gaudreau brothers during a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The tribute included a video montage, a ceremonial puck drop with the Gaudreau family and a memorial bench made of hockey sticks left by fans.
