The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the road to play the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
Toronto (16-9-2) is coming off a 5-2 road loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The Maple Leafs are in second place in the Atlantic Division.
Maple Leafs projected lines
Forwards
- Max Pacioretty - Auston Matthews - Mitch Marner
- Matthew Knies - John Tavares - William Nylander
- Pontus Holmberg - Fraser Minten - Alex Nylander
- Steven Lorentz - Connor Dewar - Ryan Reaves
Matthews, Marner and William Nylander lead the offense, with Toronto averaging 2.96 goals per game. Moreover, the offense is starting to get healthier, as Max Domi could return to the lineup on Tuesday.
However, Toronto's bottom six has been an issue this season, which coach Craig Berube says they need to step up.
“We need some guys to contribute down in the bottom six, for sure,” coach Berube said, via Sportsnet. “Got to find a way to manufacture some goals from those guys, for sure. I agree.”
“I thought these young guys have done a great job of moving their feet, getting up the ice, creating offence. But, like I've spoken about before, it's tough to score. They're doing their best, and it will come. So, you know, my thing to them is, just stay patient with it. Don't force anything. Let it come," Marner said.
Defenseman
- Oliver Ekman-Larsson - Chris Tanev
- Morgan Rielly - Philippe Myers
- Simon Benoit - Conor Timmins
Toronto's Jake McCabe and Jani Hakanpaa are both out with injuries.
Goalies
- Anthony Stolarz
- Joseph Woll
Stolarz will likely start on Tuesday which has been a surprise this season. This season, he's 8-5-2 with a 2.22 GAA and a .924 SV%.
Maple Leafs vs Devils: Preview
Toronto is on a two-game losing streak and now continues its road trip against a very good Devils team.
The Leafs' bottom-six offense has been a concern. New Jersey, meanwhile, plays tough at home as the Devils will be able to limit Toronto's offense and get a big win at home here.
Prediction: Devils 3, Maple Leafs 2.
