Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury received a warm reception in Vegas on Sunday night in what would be his last NHL game in the city. The former Golden Knights goalie is now playing his final NHL season, and the crowd in T-Mobile Arena gave a standing ovation to make his return to the city memorable.
The 40-year-old has appeared in 14 games for the Wild this season with a goals-against average of 2.54 and a save percentage of .910. Fleury was not in the starting lineup on Sunday, but that did not stop the Vegas crowd from cheering on their beloved player.
Marc-Andre Fleury’s wife, Veronique Larosee, shared one such clip posted by Sportsnet on Instagram to her stories. She added a heart hands emoji in the caption while the clip featured the moment Fleury waved at the crowd as the entire arena gave him a standing ovation during a first-period stoppage. They also chanted his name in the final minutes of the game.

The home team came away with a win on the night even though the Wild struck first at 12:09 of the opening period. Ryan Hartman capitalized on a 2-on-1 break, firing a wrist shot past Adin Hill after a turnover by Vegas defenseman Brayden McNabb.
Vegas responded in the second period, tying the game with a power-play goal by Pavel Dorofeyev. After the Wild killed nearly two minutes of a 5-on-3 advantage, Dorofeyev converted a pass from Mark Stone as he lifted a wrist shot into the top-right corner.
Keegan Kolesar gave the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead early in the third period, backhanding a rebound from a Zach Whitecloud shot. Tomas Hertl then made it 3-1 with 4:20 remaining. Finally, Dorofeyev sealed the victory with his second power-play goal of the night, scoring with just over two minutes left in regulation.
Marc-Andre Fleury pledges to ‘keep great memories’ from his time in Vegas
The former Golden Knights goalie had originally been selected in the expansion draft in Vegas’ inaugural season from the Pittsburgh Penguins and helped lead the team to a Stanley Cup final appearance in its first season. He was one of the most beloved stars on the team during the four years he spent with the Golden Knights.
Prior to his return to T-Mobile Arena on Sunday, Marc-Andre Fleury reminisced about his time in Vegas.
“It was only four years, but it seemed like we went through a lot in those four years, to start from scratch with the team, going to the Finals and all that stuff, I’ll always keep great memories from my time here,” he said, per Pioneer Press.
Fleury is a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Penguins and won the Vezina Trophy in 2020-21 while playing for the Vegas Golden Knights. He currently ranks second on the NHL’s all-time wins list with 570 victories, 117 of which came during his time with the Golden Knights.
