Madeline Gaudreau, the wife of the late NHL star Matthew Gaudreau, announced the birth of their son, Tripp, on Sunday. Matthew Gaudreau tragically passed away in a road accident in August, along with his brother Johnny.

Matthew Gaudreau’s sister shares his throwback birthday photo from 13 years ago

Last week, Katie Gaudreau reposted a heartfelt throwback photo from 13 years ago on her Instagram story. The photo was from a family celebration of her brother Matthew’s birthday, originally shared by their elder sister Kristen.

The throwback picture showed Matthew Gaudreau sitting at the kitchen counter with a birthday cake in front of him, wearing a gray beanie and a hoodie that read “Gloucester Catholic Lady Rams." Behind him stood Katie and their parents, Guy and Jane.

Guy wore a bright orange t-shirt that said “Three Star Champion,” while Katie and Jane wore red outfits. The kitchen in the background had wooden cabinets and a refrigerator covered with family photos.

Matthew and his brother Johnny tragically lost their lives in a biking accident on Aug. 29 in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. The brothers had returned home to serve as groomsmen at Katie’s wedding. The accident occurred when an allegedly drunk driver, Sean Higgins, struck the brothers while attempting to pass another car. Higgins has been charged with two counts of death and DUI.

Katie has honored her brothers’ memory through several Instagram posts, sharing old family Christmas photos and childhood memorabilia. These photos showed the Gaudreau family celebrating the holidays and cherishing moments with Johnny and Matthew. This marks their first Christmas without the brothers.
