Matthew Gaudreau’s widow Madeline shares heartwarming glimpse of their baby boy Tripp

Late professional hockey player Matthew Gaudreau’s wife Madeline shared a glimpse of their infant son Tripp on Instagram. The post features Madeline cradling Tripp and kissing him on the forehead above his crib. As with all the visuals of Tripp so far, his features have been covered, in this instance by a heart emoji.

“Lover boy,” the post caption read.

On Dec. 29, Madeline announced Tripp’s birth on social media. She has also posted pictures and other visuals of her and Matthew’s son on a few occasions since.

Matthew and his elder brother Johnny Gaudreau, who was a forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets, were killed in a road accident on Aug. 29 in Salem, New Jersey. The brothers were in town for their sister Katie’s wedding. They were riding bicycles at night when a car allegedly driven by a drunk driver struck them.

The Blue Jackets held a candlelight vigil in September to honor the brothers’ memories and to support the Gaudreaus. In the months since the tragedy, a series of events have been held to remember them and their time on the ice.

Matthew Gaudreau played hockey for Boston College for four years, one of which was with Johnny. He also played in the AHL and ECHL before retiring and becoming a coach. He was employed as the head coach for Gloucester High School, his alma mater, for one season.

Johnny won the Clark Cup with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in 2010-11 before playing hockey for Boston College before signing with the Calgary Flames in the NHL. In 2022, he moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Matthew Gaudreau’s parents, sister and sister-in-law welcome baby Tripp

The Gaudreau family came together to celebrate Tripp’s birth with an outpouring of love and support on social media. Matthew’s mother Jane posted a special comment to the Instagram post.

“Mom-Mom & Pop-Pop's hearts are overflowing with love for you, Tripp Matthew. We are so incredibly proud of you and your mommy and I know your Daddy is too! 💙”, both in the comments as well as her stories.

Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau’s younger sister Katie also shared her feelings in a heartfelt post.

“Yay!!!!!!!!!!! Aunt Katie loves you, mommy, and daddy SOOOO much.”

Johnny’s wife Meredith also expressed her love in the post’s comments

“🙏💙✨ I love you Baby Tripp!”, Meredith wrote.

Meredith is set to give birth to her and Johnny’s third child in April.
