Madeline Gaudreau, wife of the late Matthew Gaudreau, is expecting their first child, a baby boy named Tripp. Matthew tragically died in a bicycle-auto accident on August 29, 2024, alongside his brother, NHL player Johnny Gaudreau.
Despite her loss, Madeline has shared moments of love and strength as she prepares to meet her son.
On Monday, Madeline Gaudreau shared an emotional update on Instagram as she prepares to welcome her baby boy. In her Instagram story, she posted a picture of herself with her late husband, Matthew Gaudreau, gazing into each other’s eyes. Alongside the photo, she wrote:
"Our baby boy will be here any day."
Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau died in Salem County, New Jersey, while in town to be groomsmen at their sister’s wedding. The brothers were riding bicycles when a driver, suspected of being under the influence, fatally struck them. The driver was later charged with two counts of death by auto.
After the tragedy, Madeline shared her grief on Instagram, posting a photo with Matthew Gaudreau.
"I have no words. I just miss you. I don’t know my life without you," she wrote ... "I know you are watching down in just as much pain as I am looking up. I will keep going for you and our son. I love you so much Matthew."
Madeline's emotional baby shower honored late husband Matthew Gaudreau
On Oct. 12, 2024, Madeline Gaudreau held a baby shower surrounded by friends and family. The celebration featured blue and white balloons and a theme that honored her late husband.
Madeline shared photos on Instagram, thanking everyone who helped make the day special and expressing how touched she was by the thoughtful details.
"Baby Shower of my Dreams ... My husband would have loved all the balloons. The way you were able to tie in my husband brought instant tears when I walked in," she wrote.
The event included a photo wall that read "A little piece of heaven" and balloons spelling out "Tripp." A sign outside their house welcomed guests with the words "Matty and Madeline," symbolizing Matthew Gaudreau’s presence.
Madeline shared her gratitude, saying her son will be surrounded by people who will remind him of his dad’s love.
"All my friends and family, nothing will bring his dad back or uncle John, but I am glad he has so many amazing people around him to remind him how amazing they are," she added.
