Late professional hockey player Matthew Gaudreau’s wife Madeline posted a picture on Instagram featuring the couple’s only child, Tripp. Madeline, who announced his birth on Dec. 30, shared the photo on Wednesday.

She wore bracelets with her husband's and son's names while cradling Tripp.

“Our Boy,” Madeline captioned.

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed in a road accident in Oldmans Township, New Jersey on Aug. 29. They were in town for their younger sister Katie’s wedding. They rode bicycles when they were struck by a car. The driver, Sean Higgins, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The hockey community was shocked by the tragic passing of the brothers and has since rallied to support the Gaudreau family. Johnny's wife Meredith is expecting their third child.

On Saturday, the Dubuque Fighting Saints, who Johnny played for in 2010-11, retired his jersey. His #8 jersey was the first one the franchise retired. Johnny, who led the team in winning the Clark Cup, also became a part owner of the franchise in 2018.

At the event, USHL president Glenn Hefferan formally announced The Gaudreau Award in honor of the legacy of Johnny and Matthew.

The player who will win the award will be someone known for his integrity, humility and ability to bring people together through volunteer work, mentorship or fan engagement.

Matthew Gaudreau’s wife Madeline pens tear-jerking message reflecting on her loss

On Sunday, Madeline Gaudreau shared a poignant post on Instagram in honor of Matthew. Her post was a deeply moving reflection of how she and her family have been coping with the brothers' death.

"Sometimes in life, there are losses. Losses that can never really be replaced. Losing you has been the hardest thing I've ever had to live with,” she began. “I wasn't ready to say goodbye. I wasn't ready to let you leave. I would give anything for just one more day, just one more second," Madeline captioned.

Madeline also shared that she felt that her late husband had blessed her through her pregnancy.
