Philadelphia Flyers phenom Matvei Michkov has made his thoughts on head coach John Tortorella crystal clear in an exclusive interview with reporter Daria Tuboltseva (through translator) of RG media.
Despite being benched for games on Nov 7 and Nov. 9 and also in the third period against Anaheim on Dec. 28, Michkov had nothing but praise for coach Tortorella.
"He's the coach, so he knows best. Of course, he explained everything and gave me advice on how to play and what not to do. Tortorella is very experienced, and there's a lot I can learn from him. I try to listen to everything he says and follow all his instructions," Michkov stated.
Michkov pointed out that they currently communicate through an interpreter and he can understand Tortorella, but working on his responses.
Michkov pointed out that he liked Tortorella's direct approach and honesty which are highly valued in his circle.
“For me, the most important quality in a person is honesty, and John Tortorella is a very honest person with everyone."
After hitting a slump with a seven-game pointless streak, Michkov was able to end it with a two-point game against the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday. He currently leads the rookies with 12 goals and 29 points in 37 NHL games this season.
