The Boston Bruins got off to a poor start this season. They responded by firing Jim Montgomery and promoting Joe Sacco as interim head coach. That seemed to get things trending in the right direction, as they crawled their way back to contention.
A recent slide has them back down to fourth in their division at 20-19-5. They've lost six straight, and hockey insider Elliotte Friedman believes they may be in shock over the latest trend. The NHL analyst said on his podcast (26:00):
"They thought with Lindholm and Zadorov, they would have plugged those holes and they would have been better. And they're not. And now, I think they're kind of regrouping and thinking, do we have to take a bigger picture?"
Friedman speculated that they may be looking again at coaching as the reason for their struggles.
"If there is someone who they're thinking about maybe being a full time coach, particularly if that, if it's a, if it's not Sacco and, b if it's someone who's available," he added. "Does Boston all of a sudden look and say, if we're going to commit to this person, do we try to go for them now? So that's one of the things I thought of there."
When they fired Jim Montgomery, he landed with the St. Louis Blues after they fired their coach for him. The Bruins may now have to do something similar to bring someone in.
NHL analyst has perfect trade target to fix Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins have lost six straight and are in danger of spiraling further if something doesn't change. NHL analyst Andrew Raycroft believes Elias Pettersson might be the answer.
Pettersson is a little disgruntled right now with the Vancouver Canucks and could be available. Via NESN, Raycroft said:
“He’s extremely skilled. He’s great on the power play. A great shot, a great one-timer over on the other side from where David (Pastrnak) would be. He’s a long body and does play a pretty good 200-foot game. He’s a scorer. He’s a guy who gets points and scores.”
It remains to be seen whether the Canucks trade one or neither of Pettersson or J.T. Miller.
