The Edmonton Oilers lost 4-1 to the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon at American Airlines Arena. The Stars controlled much of the game from start to finish, nearly shutting out the Oilers.

Leon Draisaitl got the lone goal for the Oilers, while Matt Duchene scored twice, with Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson adding the other tallies for Dallas.

The loss sparked a flurry of fan reactions, with most criticizing the Oilers’ performance.

“Team is allergic to consistency,” one fan weighed in.
“Turned it off when it became 2-0,” another fan commented.
“Oilers seriously need to sit the non performers and bring up some youth from the AHL. Send a message to them!” this fan tweeted.

While the comments overwhelmingly criticized the Edmonton Oilers’ collective performance, others singled out individual players.

“Hyman, Nuge, even McDavid need to wake up,” a fan opined.
“RNH and Hyman have been useless,” another fan weighed in.
“Welp one good thing is Skinner and Bouchard are playing themselves out of big paydays,” this fan chimed in.

The Edmonton Oilers are now 2-4 to start the season. The club is tied with the Vancouver Canucks for sixth spot in the Pacific Division, ahead only of the winless San Jose Sharks.

ESPN ranks Edmonton Oilers 10th in latest power rankings

ESPN released the latest edition of its power rankings, with the Oilers listed at #10. The ranking is a significant drop, as the previous edition had listed Edmonton as the top team.

However, the most recent ranking pointed out the Oilers’ tough start as a result of a lack of “on-ice chemistry.”

In particular, ESPN highlighted Viktor Arvidsson’s slow start. Arvidsson is pointless in six games this season despite playing in the Oilers’ talented top six.

While ESPN believes Arvidsson is due to bounce back, there’s no telling if or when that could be the case. Arvidsson was signed as a free agent this past offseason to fill in for departed forwards such as Dylan Holloway and the injured Evander Kane.

Still, Arvidsson is not the only one who’s struggled. Other key contributors like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman have yet to live up to last year’s standards. Of course, it’s still early in the season, with the aforementioned players due to break out at any point.

In the meantime, the Oilers’ depth players will need to step up to help them turn around their 2-4 start and get back into the thick of the Western Conference playoff race.
