NHL fans on social media reacted to the NY Rangers' disappointing 5-3 loss to the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Monday.
The Rangers have now gone without a win in four straight games, and it marked their seventh defeat in the last nine outings. The Blueshirts have a record of 4-15-0 over their last 19 games and finished the year with a 16-19-1 record.
Despite going down 2-0 in the opening period, the NY Rangers fought hard and tied the game twice, including an early equalizer in the third period. However, the Panthers responded decisively by scoring twice in the third to seal the win.

How Florida Panthers downed NY Rangers
Eetu Loustarinen opened the scoring for the Panthers, giving them a 1-0 lead at 3:04 of the first period.
Two minutes later, Mackie Samoskevich extended the lead to 2-0 before the end of the first period. Filip Chytil cut the deficit to 2-1 for the Rangers at 14:25 of the second period.
Ryan Lindgren tied it 2-2 for the visitors, but Jesper Boqvist restored the lead to 3-2 for the Panthers before heading into the final period. At 5:19, Chris Kreider tied it 3-3 for the Blueshirts after scoring on the power play.
However, the Panthers scored twice in the period, with goals from Boqvist and Aleksander Barkov (empty-net), ultimately sealing a 5-3 win for the Florida Panthers. Uvis Balinskis and Boqvist accumulated two points apiece for the Panthers and Sergei Bobrovsky made 33 saves on the night.
The Florida Panthers host the Carolina Hurricanes next on Thursday. The puck drops at 7 p.m. ET.
